Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 19, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what Ontora (operated by Ontora Knowledge Corp., “Ontora,” “we,” “us”) collects, why, and what you can do about it. It applies to Ontora Learn and our website.

Our approach is simple: your learning data belongs to you. We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t run ads in Ontora.

1. What we collect

Information you give us:

  • Account details, including your name, email, date of birth (used to confirm you’re 18 or older), and preferred language.
  • Phone number, for verification at signup.
  • Your student status and, optionally, your school, if you choose to provide them.
  • Content you create or upload, such as notes, questions, answers, and any materials you bring into features like Study Mode.

Information created as you learn:

  • Your learning activity, including the concepts you study, your responses, and the signals we use to measure understanding.
  • Your knowledge state, meaning the record of what you’ve learned and how well, which powers your personalized experience and your knowledge dashboard.

Information collected automatically:

  • Basic technical data needed to run the service and keep it secure, such as device and browser information, IP address, and usage logs.

2. Why we use it

We use your information to:

  • Create and secure your account, and verify you’re eligible to use Ontora.
  • Teach you, which means personalizing what and how we teach, measuring your understanding, and adapting to you.
  • Show you your own learning and knowledge over time.
  • Operate, maintain, and improve Ontora.
  • Communicate with you about your account and the service.
  • Protect Ontora and its users, and comply with the law.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your identifiable personal data to serve you ads.

Support access. Authorized Ontora staff may access your account information and learning data when needed to provide support, investigate a problem, or maintain the service. This access is limited to what is necessary for the task, and every such access is recorded in an internal audit log that identifies who accessed what and when.

3. AI Processing

To provide personalized tutoring, your inputs (including messages, answers, and learning materials you submit) are processed by AI systems, including third-party AI providers, to generate responses and adapt your learning. We do not sell your personal data. Learning data associated with your account belongs to you.

4. How we improve Ontora

To make Ontora better at teaching, we may study how the service is used. When we do this, we use aggregated and de-identified data, stripped of information that identifies you personally, so that improving the platform doesn’t expose who you are or what you specifically studied.

5. Who we share it with

We share your information only in these limited ways:

  • Service providers who help us run Ontora, such as hosting, database, authentication, phone and email delivery, and payment processing. They handle data on our behalf and are bound to protect it.
  • Legal reasons, if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Ontora and its users.
  • Business changes, so that if Ontora is involved in a merger, acquisition, or similar event, information may transfer as part of that, subject to this Policy.

We don’t share your personal learning data with advertisers, and we don’t sell it.

6. Your choices and rights

You can:

  • Access and update your account information in settings.
  • Export your learning data, as this feature rolls out in the product.
  • Delete your account. When you delete your account, we remove or de-identify your personal data, except where we’re required to keep certain records by law. Deletion is handled as described in our Terms and in the product.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your data, such as access, correction, deletion, or portability. To exercise any of these, contact us at privacy@ontora.academy.

7. Data security

We protect your data with technical and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit, access controls, and a layered security architecture. No system is perfectly secure, but we take protecting your information seriously and design Ontora with security as a priority.

8. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account, we remove or de-identify your personal data, keeping only what we’re legally required to retain.

9. Age restriction

Ontora is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. We verify age at signup, and if we learn we’ve collected data from someone under 18, we’ll delete it. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us at privacy@ontora.academy.

10. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy over time. If we make a material change, we’ll let you know. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the current version.
